TURIN, Italy (AP) — The 2011 Giro d’Italia will start from Italy’s first capital, Turin, in celebration of Italy’s 150th anniversary of unification.
The race will begin with a team time trial from the Reggia di Venaria Reale palace outside Turin to the Palazzo Reale in the city center on May 7.
Day two is a 150-mile stage from Alba to Parma.
The Giro ends with an individual 20-mile time trial in Milan on May 29.
This year, Ivan Basso became the 65th Italian to take the race winner’s pink jersey.
