Late TD lifts Florida A&M past Norfolk State 17-13

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Phillip Sylvester scored on a 10-yard run with 6:21 left and Florida A&M defeated Norfolk State 17-13 on Saturday.

The score capped a 13-play, 98-yard drive by the Rattlers (4-3, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), which started with a 36-yard run by Sylvester from the Florida A&M 2. Martin Ukpai was 4-for-6 for 44 yards and had one carry for 15 yards on the game-winning drive.

Ukpai finished with 103 yards on 8-for-15 passing, and Sylvester had 130 yards on 23 carries.

Norfolk State (2-5, 2-2) took a 13-10 lead on Ryan Estep’s 26-yard field goal late in the third quarter.

Estep also kicked a 41-yarder for a 10-3 lead after Dante Barnes’ 68-yard interception return put Norfolk State ahead 7-3 in the first quarter.

Ukpai’s 1-yard run tied it at 10-10 with 17 seconds left in the first half.

DeAngleo Branche had 89 yards on 26 carries.
