KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Chris Wondolowski edged into the league scoring lead, but Birahim Diop’s first MLS hat trick overshadowed Wondolowski’s single goal and helped the Kansas City Wizards beat the San Jose Earthquakes 4-1 on Saturday night.
Wondolowski’s 70th-minute goal was his 18th of the season for the Earthquakes (13-10-7), extending his club record and moving him one ahead of Los Angeles’ Edson Buddle. He has scored San Jose’s last 10 goals, also extending his own record.
The Galaxy have one game remaining, hosting FC Dallas on Sunday night. San Jose, the eighth overall seed, will face the New York Red Bulls in the first round of the playoffs.
