Vancouver — The American West Vancouver Chinese School has added a preschool class and adult conversation class to its curriculum as it launches a new semester of Chinese language courses next Sunday.

Those two courses earned thumbs-up during a trial run last year.

The nonprofit AWVCS operates classes each Sunday afternoon, 1:30 to 4:20 p.m., at Hanna Hall on the Clark College campus, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way in Vancouver

There are two language courses and one cultural-activities class each week, with two 10-minute breaks.

The cost is $150 per semester.

The curriculum includes eight years of progressive language education, from phonics to Level 7 (preparation for the college-entry SAT test).

Children are welcome from age 4. Teachers are professional native Chinese teachers from Taiwan and China, and curriculum combines zhuyin phonics and hanyupinyin.
