Cavendish wins 12th stage of Spanish Vuelta

LLEIDA, Spain (AP) — Mark Cavendish of England won the 12th stage of the Spanish Vuelta on Thursday, and Igor Anton of Spain retained the overall lead.

Cavendish finished the 107.2-mile leg from Andorra la Vella to Lleida in 4 hours, 30 seconds after timing his final sprint to edge Tyler Farrar and Matthew Harley Goss, who both crossed the line with the same time.

Anton retained his 45-second overall lead on Vincenzo Nibali of Italy.
