Jackson State beats Tennessee State 33-26

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Casey Therriault threw four touchdowns to lead Jackson State to a 33-26 win over Tennessee State in the Southern Heritage Classic on Saturday night.

Tennessee State had a chance to tie the score on a first-and-goal from the Jackson State 2-yard line, but an incomplete pass from Jeremy Perry as time expired sealed the victory for Jackson State.

Jackson State (2-0) held a 21-7 lead in the third quarter, but a 24-yard field goal from Jamin Godfrey followed by a safety and a 2-yard touchdown run from Dante’ Thomas pulled Tennessee State to within two points, 21-19.

Therriault threw touchdown passes of 36 and 17 yards to give Jackson State a 33-19 lead with 8:54 remaining in the game.

Tennessee State running back Preston Brown rushed for a game-high 218 yards and two touchdowns.
