ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — Republican governor candidate Chris Dudley has rolled out a jobs plan that would cut Oregoncapital gains taxes and give businesses tax credits for hiring the unemployed.
Dudley presented his plan Wednesday at a meeting of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce. He says he can’t predict how many jobs his plan would produce, but says those jobs would generate enough tax revenue to offset the cost of his plan.
Dudley says he’d reduce Oregon’s capital gains rate from 11 percent to 3 percent for two years and then reset it at 5 percent. He also wants to let cities and counties keep half of the income taxes they collect from businesses they recruit.
The Oregonian reports he’d give a tax credit to employers who hire workers on public assistance or to emerging businesses that hire workers collecting unemployment benefits.
