VALENCIA, Spain (AP) — America’s Cup holder BMW Oracle Racing has released draft rules for the 72-foot catamarans to be used in the next regatta.
The 34th America’s Cup will be in 2013 with the first-ever wingsail catamaran class, replacing a monohull class that had been the benchmark since 1992.
The American syndicate says the AC72 rule has been made available to all teams “for feedback before it is finalized.”
BMW Oracle Racing says a smaller class of identical wingsail catamaran will be used during the America’s Cup World Series in 2011 to “fast-track all teams to a common level of technology.”
The rule, published in full on americascup.com, will be administered by an independent organization.
