PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon’s Public Utility Commission has approved a utility company’s plan to charge customers up to $200 million to pay for the removal of four dams on the Klamath River.

The Oregonian reports the California is supposed to provide another $250 million toward the project, but a legislative gridlock has delayed putting a bond measure on the ballot until 2012.

Three of the four dams are in California.

The Oregon’s commission’s approval came Thursday, part of a $450 million plan to remove the dams by 2020. The utility owns the dams.
