BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — Northern Ireland has become the latest country to confirm it will send a team to the troubled Commonwealth Games.
The country’s organizing board for the games, NICGC, met Friday to address concerns about India’s last-minute preparations for the event, before deciding to go ahead with plans to send a delegation.
India is trying frantically to complete building projects and bring facilities up to standard, leading to some countries delaying their teams’ departures for the event. However, the NICGC said in a statement that “progress has been made over the last few days.”
England decided Thursday to send its athletes to the games, and Scotland said earlier Friday its team will leave for India on Saturday.
The Northern Ireland delegation is set to arrive in New Delhi on Tuesday.
