SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle police described a chaotic scene Thursday at a Seattle home where a 60-year-old woman fatally shot three family members before turning the gun on herself.

Assistant Chief Jim Pugel said at a news conference Friday that the dead include a 14-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl and a 43-year-old man who were the woman’s grandchildren and children. Another woman was injured.

Pugel says three other family members, including a 7-year-old girl, escaped the mass shooting.

A man who later was determined to be the woman’s husband entered the house through the back, then later ran out to tell officers his wife had shot herself.

Pugel say at least 20 shots were fired inside the house. Police have not determined a motive for the killing.

The family released a statement to KIRO-TV Friday saying the woman suffered from depression and schizophrenia.
