DALLAS (AP) — Kari Lehtonen made 32 saves in his first appearance of the preseason, James Neal had a goal and an assist and the Dallas Stars held on for a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night.

Steve Ott added a power-play goal and Brad Richards had two assists for the Stars (1-1).

Patrick Bordeleau’s goal off a rebound ended Lehtonen’s shutout bid at 9:15 of the third period.

Lehtonen, set as the starter after the Stars opted not to re-sign free-agent Marty Turco during the summer, denied Ryan O’Reilly on a breakaway midway through the second period.

Lehtonen turned aside 14 shots in the second period.

Peter Budaj, slated to back up Craig Anderson this season, made 13 saves in two periods for the Avalanche (1-2). Jason Bacashihua stopped five shots in the third period for Colorado.
