ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) — Gov. John Kitzhaber is visiting Ashland to kick off his Cool Schools jobs and energy initiative.
The governor is scheduled to be at Helman Elementary School on Monday at 10 a.m.
Spokeswoman Christine Miles says the governor will watch a demonstration of how the state Department of Energy will conduct audits at 500 schools around the state. The audits will look for savings in lighting, insulation and the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
He will also talk about how upgrading energy efficiency at schools will create jobs, save money for school districts, and create a healthier atmosphere and better learning conditions for teachers and students.
The program is tapping $39 million in federal bonds for school energy upgrades.
