Letter: Don’t blame ordinary workers

The Columbian
Published: April 11, 2011, 12:00am

Pauline Warren, in her March 25 letter, “County controlled by elitist unions,” continues the Fox News relayering of society. Social and economic aristocrats were once considered the elite: bank presidents and other millionaires, those born to wealth and old families. Today it’s teachers and county workers. But aristocrats? How? Not in wealth. There are no millionaires in the county workers’ unions. Maybe in education. But that’s a choice open to everyone.

When did people like Warren first take their eyes off those who created this mess and start blaming it on workers and their unions? When Fox News told them to? Politicians have us ignoring that it was lenders and investment bankers and their enablers in Congress who defrauded and bankrupted the world. Now they get to walk away with millions and have us at each other’s throats. You won’t see prosecutions as long as the Pauline Warrens of the nation blame ordinary workers. Turn your gaze on our government. The elitist corruption is there.
