BEND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Department of Transportation and Deschutes County are working to clear the Cascade Lakes Highway in time for the opening weekend of fishing season.
The Bulletin newspaper in Bend reports that Deschutes County started clearing snow last month at Forest Road 40 near Crane Prairie Reservoir. But the county’s snowblower broke down, prompting a call for assistance to ODOT.
The county has contracted with the state agency to provide a snowblower and operator, which began work Monday near Lava Lake.
A county bulldozer was breaking up snow near Elk Lake a few miles ahead, and a county grader was working south toward Davis Lake.
