NEW YORK (AP) — Charlie Villanueva of the Detroit Pistons has been suspended for five games without pay for initiating an on-court altercation with Cleveland’s Ryan Hollins.
NBA vice president Stu Jackson announced the suspension Wednesday. He says Villanueva also tried to “escalate the altercation by entering the Cavaliers’ locker room on two occasions following his ejection.”
The incident occurred with 5:47 remaining in the Pistons’ 110-101 home loss to the Cavaliers on Monday.
Villanueva will serve the first game of his suspension Wednesday night when the Pistons play their season finale at Philadelphia. The rest will be served next season.
