OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Regardless of rain or snow Friday, the wildfire season is officially beginning in Washington.
The Department of Natural Resources says summer fire rules are in effect from April 15 through October 15 on the nearly 13 million acres of private and state forestland protected by the agency. The rules affect loggers, road builders, off-road bikers, and others who work or play in the woods.
Last year, 540 fires burned about 25,000 acres.
