MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — The Jackson County Board of Commissioners in Medford has approved a settlement to a man who alleges two sheriff’s deputies beat him at the Jackson County Jail in July 2007.

County counsel Ryan Kirchoff refused comment on settlement terms, including the amount or specific allegations against the deputies that were not dismissed.

The lawyer for Everett Comfort also declined comment.

The Mail Tribune reports that Comfort claimed he was beaten by deputies after he was arrested on a public intoxication charge, and suffered three broken ribs.

Comfort filed a lawsuit in 2009, a day before the statute of limitations expired. A judge dismissed the case but Comfort’s lawyers appealed the decision to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which later acted as a mediator in the final settlement.
