Rangers send struggling Lowe down, reinstate Lewis

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have optioned right-handed reliever Mark Lowe to Triple-A Round Rock, clearing a roster spot to reinstate Colby Lewis from Major League Baseball’s paternity leave list.

Lewis isn’t scheduled to start until Tuesday night, but had to be reinstated Monday. After his daughter’s birth, he became the first player to go on MLB paternity leave, which is a maximum three days.

Lowe allowed four runs in 2 2-3 innings in four appearances. Opposing batters hitting .500 (7 for 14) against him.

When Lowe came to Texas from Seattle with Cliff Lee in a trade last July, he was on the disabled list with lower back inflammation. He returned at the end of regular season and pitched twice in the World Series.
