MISRATA, Libya (AP) — A second photographer has died in a battle between rebels and Libyan government forces in the besieged city of Misrata.
Chris Hondros, a New York-based photographer for Getty Images, died Wednesday after being seriously wounded, according to Getty’s director of photography, Pancho Bernasconi.
The attack had already claimed the life of Tim Hetherington, an Oscar-nominated film director and war photographer.
Hondros was 41 and had covered conflict zones since the late 1990s including Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. His work has appeared in major magazines and newspapers around the world. His awards include World Press Photo honors and the Robert Capa Gold Medal, one of the highest prizes in war photography.
