LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (AP) — The Lake Oswego City Council voted 4-3 Tuesday to support a streetcar line extension from Portland.
The Oregonian reports the Portland City Council votes Wednesday on the proposal, and Clackamas and Multnomah counties and TriMet will make recommendations before the Metro Council makes a final decision this summer on the extension.
Critics worry about the environmental impact and cost of the line that would cost up to $458 million, although most of it would be federal funding.
Supporters say the streetcar would be more efficient than an enhanced bus system and would promote development in Lake Oswego.
