SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A 24-year-old Oregon man who shot and wounded a Woodburn police sergeant and fired at three other officers in March 2010 has been sentenced to more than 63 years in prison.

Billy Jack Gray had pleaded guilty to robbery, burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm and four counts of attempted aggravated murder.

The Statesman Journal says Marion County Circuit Judge Dennis Graves sentenced Gray on Wednesday to 63 years and eight months in prison.

Gray apologized to Sgt. John Mikkola and the other three officers who had been searching for the young man at a Salem apartment complex as they investigated a Woodburn burglary.

Mikkola told Gray he didn’t accept the apology. Mikkola was shot in the thigh, calf and chest. He has recovered and returned to work.

Gray was shot and wounded by a Marion County sheriff’s deputy.
