Many state agencies will be closed today for an unpaid furlough day.

Among the dozens of state agencies, boards and commissions that will be closed or off today are the departments of commerce, corrections, fish and wildlife, health, personnel and veterans affairs.

Exemptions cover certain public safety, public health and revenue-generation activities. Services performed by child protection workers, community corrections officers, emergency public health and patient safety workers, and the Washington State Patrol will continue in full.

The 10 furloughs will save more than $70 million in all funds in 2010–11. The next closure is June 10.
