PE ELL, Wash. (AP) — Thieves broke into the fire station in the Lewis County town of Pe Ell and took the “jaws of life” tool.

The department’s Keith Shepherd told KIRO-TV it could have deadly consequences if firefighters are unable to rip into a wrecked car to rescue a trapped person.

Thieves also took generators, chainsaws, fire axes, masks and gear worth about $18,000 in all.
