EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Hundreds of police officers are heading to Eugene to honor a slain colleague.
The Eugene Police Department will hold a memorial service Friday to honor the life of 43-year-old motorcycle officer Chris Kilcullen, who was fatally shot during a traffic stop one week ago.
Before the memorial service at the University of Oregon’s Matthew Knight Arena, emergency vehicles from around the state will participate in a procession through Eugene and Springfield. Police are inviting the public to line the streets along the route.
Authorities say Kilcullen was shot during a traffic stop following a short pursuit in Springfield. A 56-year-old Springfield woman has been charged with aggravated murder.
Kilcullen is the first Eugene police officer killed in the line of duty since 1934.
