JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A spokesman with federal Bureau of Prisons says James Ford Seale, a reputed Ku Klux Klansman imprisoned for his role in the segregation-era abduction and killing of two black men in rural Mississippi, has died.
Bureau of Prisons spokesman Edmond Ross says Seale died Tuesday in Terre Haute, Ind., where he had been serving three life sentences after being convicted in 2007 of two counts of kidnapping and one of conspiracy to commit kidnapping. He was 76 years old. Ross said he didn’t know the cause of death.
Authorities say Henry Hezekiah Dee and Charles Eddie Moore, both 19, were beaten by Klansmen and thrown, possibly still alive, into a muddy backwater of the Mississippi River.
