SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers have added former San Diego wide receiver Legedu Naanee to the roster.

The team made it official on Friday. Naanee has not arrived at the team’s training camp. Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Naanee must go through a physical and sign his contract before he take part in practice. Rivera was hopeful Naanee would be cleared in time for Friday night’s practice at Wofford College.

Naanee is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound receiver who was drafted by the Chargers from Boise State in 2007. He spent four years in San Diego, where Rivera was defensive coordinator and Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski coached tight ends.

Naanee had 63 receptions in four seasons with the Chargers. He had 23 catches a year ago despite missing six games with hamstring problems.
