What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

Congratulations to Hazel Dell Metro Babe Ruth.
Sure, losing in the regional semifinals was painful for the HDM 15-year-old all-stars. They had planned for much more.
Still, only quality teams make it to the regional semifinals.
Hazel Dell Metro has sent 17 teams to Babe Ruth World Series, including last summer when this group went to the 14-year-old series.
The growth of independent baseball has changed the youth baseball landscape. But Hazel Dell Metro continues to be a top-notch program and a cornerstone of Clark County’s strong baseball community.
That’s worth celebrating.

The college football coaches preseason top-25 poll was released this week.
Once again, we have a problem with it.
No, we’re not really bothered that the Pac-12 has only two teams — No. 3 Oregon and No. 6 Stanford — among the top 25. No other conference teams are coming off the kind of season that produces high expectations nationally.
Our problem with this preseason poll is that it is the first step toward determining who plays for the BCS championship. A preseason ranking doesn’t guarantee anything. But a high ranking before any games are played is an unfair — and undeserved — advantage.
