Hazel Dell — Thanks to the Salvation Army, 25 Clark County students, mostly from Vancouver Public Schools, received free school supplies during a shopping spree at the Hazel Dell Target store on July 26. Each student was given an $80 Target gift card, a reusable shopping bag and a chaperone. Chaperones included volunteers from the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, Rotary Club, Vancouver Heights United Methodist Church, civic leaders and the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army provides needy youth with backpacks filled with school supplies on an annual basis, but this was the first year they participated in the shopping spree, which was funded by Target.
