BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Colombian Football Federation officials turned down national soccer team coach Hernan Dario Gomez’s resignation, three days after he stepped away after acknowledging reports he struck a woman in a bar last weekend.
The move received the support Friday of national team players, but was criticized by supporters of women’s rights groups. Numerous reports suggest the Colombian federation will reinstate Gomez after Colombia finishes hosting the Under-20 World Cup, which ends Aug. 20.
