OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) — The Supergirl Jam series, billed as the biggest all-women’s competition series in action sports, begins Saturday with the Pro Junior surf contest in this city in northern San Diego County.

Among the 16 competitors will be Malia Manuel of Kauai, Hawaii, the 2010 Supergirl Pro Junior silver medalist and former Women’s U.S. Open Champion, and Courtney Conlogue, a former Supergirl champion and X Games gold medalist.

On Aug. 21, the fifth annual Supergirl Jam at Venice Beach will feature top snowboarders competing on 80,000 pounds of snow formed into a 28-foot hill, and top skateboarders competing on a custom course.

Danyale Patterson of Anchorage, Alaska, will defend her title in snowboard while X Games gold medalist Alexis Sablone of New York will defend her title on the skate course.
