FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Jim Leonhard’s season ended last December when he suffered a gruesome leg injury. While the New York Jets made another run to the AFC championship, the frustrated safety could only watch.

He’s all healed now from a broken leg and excited about getting back on the field again. Coach Rex Ryan says he expects Leonhard to play in the Jets’ preseason opener at Houston on Monday night.

Leonhard missed the last five games of the regular season and the postseason after getting hurt. Cornerback Darrelle Revis says “we felt like our season was over” after the injury because of Leonhard’s impact on the defense.

Leonhard won’t be returning punts anytime soon, but he says he leg feels great and he’ll be back in New York’s secondary.
