ROGUE RIVER, Ore. (AP) — Firefighters worked overnight to protect homes from a wildfire that has burned about 400 acres near Rogue River in southern Oregon.
Jackson County Fire District No. 3 spokesman Don Hickman said Friday morning that fire lines mostly held. Three outbuildings were lost, but no homes. He says firefighters made a strong stand to save one home from the flames.
No one has been injured
The fire broke out Thursday afternoon, burning grass and brush in an area that had been burned before. A state forestry spokesman said at least 40 homes were threatened and the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 were briefly closed.
Hickman says five helicopters and a number of bulldozers are being used to help the firefighters.
