MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Joe Mauer is adding another position to his resume — right field.

Mauer is in the lineup in right field for the Minnesota Twins for Thursday’s game against the New York Yankees, the first time he’s played there in the majors. Mauer has been a catcher his entire career but also played some first base this summer while Justin Morneau was out.

The Twins had little choice but to put Mauer there, with Michael Cuddyer bothered by a sore neck and Jason Kubel tending to a family matter. Luke Hughes was being recalled from Triple-A Rochester but had yet to arrive in Minnesota.
