SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Home run king Barry Bonds made a rare appearance at a San Francisco Giants game Wednesday night, and received plenty of attention when he showed off a ball while sitting in the stands.
The former Giants left fielder was sitting in box seats near the home dugout when he stood in the eighth inning and smiled, waved the ball at fans and put it in his jacket pocket.
TV Replays didn’t indicate how Bonds got the ball.
Bonds retired after the 2007 season with a majors-best 762 home runs but his legacy has been tainted by steroids accusations. He only makes it to Giants games a handful of times a year.
Bonds was due back in federal court in San Francisco this week. His lawyers are working to persuade a federal judge to throw out his obstruction of justice conviction or grant him a new trial.
