YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — The state Transportation Department says U.S. Highway 12 near White Pass will close the evening of Aug. 29 to allow for rock blasting operations to stabilize slopes above the highway.
All westbound traffic will be stopped at the White Pass summit at 6 p.m. Eastbound traffic will be stopped at 6 p.m. at the road closure location near the junction of Highway 12 and State Road 123, just east of Packwood.
The department says the closure will last until about 7 a.m. Aug. 30, but could last longer depending on how much rock falls and how quickly crews can clear the highway.
Non-commercial vehicles can detour around the closure by taking State Road 123 and State Road 410 through Mount Rainier National Park. Commercial vehicle drivers should seek alternate routes.
