Events slated at Northwoods
NORTHWOODS — Three outdoor events are planned this weekend at the east end of Swift Reservoir in Skamania County.
The second annual Huckleberry Hurrah will be from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. on Saturday near the Pine Creek Information Center on Gifford Pinchot National Forest road No. 90.
Facts on huckleberries plus face painting games and more will be offered.
At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the movie “Yogi Bear’’ will be shown outside at Pine Creek center.
From 8:30 a.m. until noon on Sunday will the 16th annual pancake breakfast, raffle and auction at Skamania County Fire District No. 6. The money benefits local emergency service providers. A donation of $4 is suggested.

Wildlife League meets Wednesday
The Vancouver Wildlife League will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the state Department of Fish and Wildlife office, 2108 Grand Blvd.
Biologist Eric Kinne will describe efforts to reintroduce salmon and steelhead above the dams on the North Fork of the Lewis River.
The public is welcome.
Oregon salmon season extended
NEWPORT — The non-selective coho salmon fishing season off the central Oregon coast will stay open four more days, allowing daily angling through Sept. 10.
The area involved is between Cape Falcon near Manzanita to Humbug Mountain near Port Orford.
The National Marine Fisheries Service aproved the four days last week.
Mount Bachelor makes upgrades
BEND, Ore. — Mt. Bachelor ski area in central Oregon is making $3.5 million in improvements for the coming winter season.
Among the expenditures will be upgrades to chairlifts, three new grooming machines and renovations to food service outlets in all the lodges.
Among the food service renovations will be a new 60-seat outdoor bar in a heated, circular structure with removable glass walls and a retractable umbrella ceiling for sunny days.
The new outdoor bar will be at Sunrise Lodge.
Mt. Bachelor is the largest ski resort in the Cascades, with 10 chairlifts and 3,683 acres.
Yale boat ramp closes Sept. 6
COUGAR — Yale Park boat ramp on the North Fork of the Lewis River will be closed beginning Tuesday and continuing through October.
PacifiCorp will be making upgrades include resurfacing the parking lot, adding parking lines and providing a wheelchair-accessble route through the day-use area.
Beaver Bay boat ramp at the upper end of Yale Reservoir will remain open.
Tom Gauntt, a PacifiCorp spokesman, said the closure after Labor Day is timed to lessen inconvenience to visitors.
