Charleston Southern obliterates VMI 114-81

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Saah Nimley scored 24 points and Charleston Southern scored more than 50 points in each half to rout Virginia Military Institute 114-81 Saturday night in Big South Conference action.

The Buccaneers (5-2, 2-0), leading 58-50 at halftime, blew the game open in the second half. They went on a 7-0 run shortly after the break, then kept scoring and never stopped. Charleston Southern hit 60.9 percent from the floor (42 of 69), sinking 13 of 22 3-point attempts. Nimley made five 3s, as many as VMI hit in 24 tries.

VMI (3-4, 0-2) was outscored 56-36 in the paint and 20-4 on fast-break points. The Keydets were ice cold after the break, hitting 5 of 24 shots and missing all 10 of their 3-point attempts.

Arlon Harper scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half for the Bucs. Stan Okoye led VMI with 18 points.
