WASHINGTON (AP) — Hollis Thompson scored 20 points, Mikael Hopkins had 12, and Jason Clark added 10 to lead Georgetown to its fifth straight win, 84-44 over overmatched NJIT on Saturday.
The Hoyas (7-1) raced to a 16-2 point lead in the game’s first 5 1/2 minutes, as Thompson hit three 3-pointers.
The Highlanders (3-4), who have never played a ranked team in six seasons in Division I, made it somewhat respectable for at least a few moments, outscoring Georgetown 19-14 to make it 30-21 with 4:38 to play in the first half.
The Hoyas scored the last four points of the first half to lead 42-28. Georgetown came out roaring in the second half, scoring the first 18 points — 11 by Thompson on three more 3-pointers and a layup to conclude the 22-0 run.
They led 60-28 before NJIT scored its first points of the second half with 13:44 remaining.
