Letter: Taxes and traffic not to be tolerated

Unlike the opinion in a Dec. 12 letter from Kathryn Cave, I do not think that high “taxes and traffic are tolerable.” The active discussions around the issues impacting Southwest Washington are important and beneficial to sustain the area’s livability. High taxes and high traffic choke the flow of products, services and people. Accidents, bridge lifts and inadequate mass transit are ongoing factors that will continue to reduce the economic vitality of Southwest Washington, Oregon, and the U.S.A. The current state of the Interstate 5 Bridge is not tolerable.

There are compelling issues why, over the past 20 years, the East Coast population has been migrating to the South and West Coasts. Among the issues are high taxes, high tolls, and low livability factors on the East Coast.

So, we in the Pacific Northwest are not “spoiled,” because I, among others who have worked and lived here over the past 20 years or longer, want to sustain Southwest Washington’s high livability.
