Gig Harbor man pleads guilty in daughter’s death

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A Gig Harbor man who pleaded guilty in the death of his 3-week-old daughter faces a recommended term of 11 years in prison when he is sentenced Feb. 28 in Tacoma.

The 39-year-old, Bonifacio V. Velarde, pleaded guilty Monday in Pierce County Superior Court to manslaughter. He had been charged with murder in the May 2009 death of the baby.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reports medical examiners said she died of head trauma.
