CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland (AP) — Fifteen-year-old Mikaela Shiffrin of Vail., Colo., has won a slalom bronze medal at the Alpine Junior World Championships.

Shiffrin trailed two 19-year-old skiers on Thursday — gold medalist Jessica Depauli of Austria and silver medalist Anna Swenn-Larsson of Sweden. Shiffrin completed the two runs in 1 minute 41.27 seconds — 0.95 seconds behind the winner.

Shiffrin attends Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont and is skiing at her first junior worlds. She established a reputation this season with victories on the second-tier North American Cup circuit.

She did not start Wednesday’s giant slalom because of a cold.
