PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin has two torn knee ligaments, and it’s not clear if he’ll need surgery.

Malkin was injured during Friday night’s game against Buffalo. Penguins coach Dan Bylsma says an MRI on Saturday shows tears to the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. He says treatment options are being discussed, and rehab is a possibility.

Malkin collided with defenseman Tyler Myers in the second period. The former league scoring champion had missed the previous five games because of an injured left knee and sinus infection. He has missed 10 games this season, most related to his knee.

Bylsma said the team had managed without Malkin and “that’s what we’re going to have to look at now.”
