SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Gov. John Kitzhaber’s new budget proposal for Oregon’s state government contains nearly $80 million worth of tax breaks aimed at creating jobs.

That includes a proposal to reduce capital gains taxes by up to $25 million for in-state investments.

He also wants to expand a tax credit for movies and television shows shot in Oregon. And he proposes extending a business energy tax credit that’s due to expire, although he would scale it back.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports that legislators may be debating such new tax cuts at a time when many are seeing tight budgets for schools, health care and public safety.
