Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) holds off Wagner 71-57

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) — Shawn Atupem didn’t miss a shot in scoring 16 points and Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) held off Wagner 71-57 Wednesday night for its third straight win.

Atupem was 6 of 6 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line, while also grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out two assists.

Julian Norfleet added 14 points for the Mountaineers (10-16, 8-5 Northeast Conference), Jean Cajou had 13 and Josh Castellanos chipped in 12 points and seven assists.

Wagner (12-12, 8-5) rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit to even the score at 42 with 9:51 left.

Atupem then scored eight points and assisted on a Castellanos 3-pointer as Mount St. Mary’s pushed ahead 53-47.

The Mountaineers shot 55.8 percent from the field (24 of 43), making their final seven shots.

Latif Rivers scored 16 to lead Wagner, which shot 34 percent (18 of 53) as its two-game winning streak ended.
