Long Island defeats Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) 84-64

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) — Julian Boyd had 15 points, 11 rebounds and led six Long Island players in double figures in an 84-64 win over Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) on Saturday night.

Jamal Olasewere added 13 points and 10 rebounds and David Hicks also had 13 points for the Blackbirds (22-5, 14-2 Northeast Conference), who won their eighth straight. Michael Culpo scored 11 points for Long Island and Kyle Johnson and Jason Brickman had 10 points each.

The Blackbirds outrebounded Mount St. Mary’s 51-31, grabbing 24 on the offensive glass leading to 24 second-chance points.

Long Island led 44-24 at the half, before the Mountaineers (10-19, 8-8) opened the second half on a 10-3 run to make it 47-34. The Blackbirds, however, answered with seven straight points to pull away.

Shawn Atupem led Mount St. Mary’s with a career-high 23 points. Raven Barber chipped in 11 points for the Mountaineers.
