GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Now that Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale has been told by manager Ozzie Guillen that he won’t be in the starting rotation, the rookie can turn his focus to the bullpen.
Sale is looking forward to the challenge as he tries to earn the closer job.
Pitching coach Don Cooper maps out a weekly schedule for Sale to keep him comfortable in a relatively new situation.
This is Sale’s first spring training, though he has some major league service. Sale had a 1.93 ERA last year with four saves and 32 strikeouts in 23 1-3 innings.
