Pit bulls maul, seriously injure S. Oregon boy, 9

Published:

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. (AP) — A 9-year-old southern Oregon boy was seriously injured when he was attacked by three large pit bulls at his father’s home in Central Point.

The Mail Tribune reported that Ashtin Hedges was in fair condition at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Jackson County sheriff’s deputies said the dogs appeared to have torn off a large chunk of the boy’s scalp.

Animal Control officers will quarantine the dogs for 10 days to check for rabies or other problems that might have led to the attack. A decision on their fate will be made after an investigation.

The boy’s father, 34-year-old Timothy Hedges, told authorities he does not want the dogs around his child any more.
