Robert Morris defeats Mount St. Mary’s 65-57

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) — Gary Wallace scored five points during a key run which allowed Robert Morris to pull away from Mount St. Mary’s in a 65-57 win on Thursday night.

The Colonials (15-13, 11-6 Northeast Conference) led 39-38 with 11:30 remaining before scoring 11 straight. Wallace, who finished with nine points, capped the spurt with a 3-pointer to put Robert Morris ahead 49-38 with 8:38 remaining.

The Mountaineers (10-19, 8-9) would cut the lead to three, 56-53, on Lamar Trice’s free throw with 2:42 remaining but didn’t get any closer. The Colonials hit a field goal and 7 of 8 free throws the rest of the way to seal it.

Velton Jones scored 12 points and Russell Johnson and Lijah Thompson added 10 each for Robert Morris.

The Colonials shot 43.4 percent from the field (23 of 53), and the Mountaineers 34.6 percent (18 of 52).

Trice scored 24 points to lead Mount St. Mary’s.
