DUBLIN, Ky. (AP) — The uncle of one of four Amish children killed when their horse-drawn buggy flipped in a rain-swollen creek says the family was on the way home from making a phone call when it happened.
The body of Levi Yoder’s 11-year-old niece was found Friday morning, dashing hopes that she might have been alive.
The bodies of a a 5-month-old, a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old had been found earlier. Three of the children were siblings and one was a cousin.
Two adults and three other children escaped. The horse that was pulling the buggy also survived.
Officials say the group was traveling in a downpour in the dark and may not have realized the creek had risen. Yoder says the family was heading home after going out Thursday to use what is known as a phone shack.
